Great, but…

This morning was great, gangbusters out of the gate. But, at 2:30, a u-turn and down they came. I thought we may even get into the red….real close for the Nasdaq….the Dow and S&P had more of a cushion, but still ending in the lower half of the range. Not bad overall. Better than expected CPI numbers were the big push, but I’m not sure why the late day sell off. And did you see the VIX get under 17?

Had some good plays (DNDN) (DGLY) (MVIS) and (QTWW), but I was bored after noon. Tomorrow I’m watching (BIOS), (VNDA), (GFG) and (MNKD). Happy Trading :!:

It looked worse than it was…

(AIG) and oil prices brought down the DOW almost 1%, but the Nasdaq was only down a quarter point and the Russell 2000 and the S&P Midcaps closed in the green :!: So I’m not sure what the market is telling me, but the stocks I watched and played were not too bad: (IAR), (DVAX), (CTDC), (XRM). They made up for the losers (BCON) and (SIGA).

Oil went ballistic, but I’m wondering if that’s an exhaustion gap up ending in a hammer. All the airline stocks suffered today and (FDX) took a tumble after hours when they warned oil prices will cut into this quarter’s earnings. And the market has been doing not too bad with all this bad news. Let’s see if anything happens during the weekend.

Have a great weekend and spend some time looking at charts. It really doesn’t matter what the news is, it’s all in the charts ;)

Anybody playing the CNBC Millionaire’s Challenge?

Another ho hum day

But this time with a few winners in my pocket (FCEL) (ANAD) (STEM) (HYTM). The market had some good earnings this morning, but the after hours reports were less than enthusiastic. We’ll see how tomorrow pans out. The Nasdaq had a strong day but can we continue with those (AAPL) and (AMZN) earnings. Volume was up a bit, but still below average. C’mon everybody….BUY!

Tomorrow we have the biggest quantity of earnings in one day…in the biggest week of earnings. Good for that, because we don’t have any economic news.

Nice Week!

Two big up days in one week…yeah baby! The Nasdaq and Qs had a big gap up …which held and the Dow and SP500 had nice big candles on increasing volume. Some profit taking at the end of the day, but for an option expiration Friday, it was a great ending!

My plays: I dumped COCO and OPWV early for a gain and got out of KNOT at the 50 ma for 15%. My watchlist from yesterday were all doji’s, but I am holding HYTM over the weekend, along with SSCC and SIGA. Over all a very good week. I hope you had a good one as well :!:

Oh Well…

The indexes didn’t do much, but the stocks I picked last night were up 4 out of 5. I really thought IBM and EBAY would at least help the tech sector….but no, they didn’t do much for the market and EBAY couldn’t even help itself. And the jobless claims report was a downer. Volume was lagging all day long, but really perked up in the last hour. Dojis all around.

Stocks….EPEX was my only loser, but OPWV, KNOT, SSCC and COCO were winners….I’m holding overnight….and hoping :)

2 for 1

We went up today as much as we went down yesterday. If you look at a 2-day chart, what do we have?…….Yes! Another doji….bouncing off the 8 ema. Tomorrow is Friday and we’ll have to see what traders decide to do for the weekend. Let me guess…..a doji day? And I’ll hope for an upward bias :)

Most of the news this morning was bad, but the markets headed up and were up big. In the final hour though, there was a pretty sharp sell-off with a recovery in the closing minutes. Today’s winning volume was bigger than yesterday’s losing volume.

My good trades: SIGA HYTM. My big loser today was yesterday’s winner…MVIS. Oh well.

Slithering down

The Nasdaq and the Qs took it on the chin today, down over 1%…while the S&P was down 0.8% and the Dow was the least stinky at 0.39% We found support just shy of the halfway point of last Tuesday’s big candles.

Is was a losing day trading for me with CROX AVR VNDA. My only winner continues to be MVIS. I saw some rumors that AAPL may like the MVIS products for the iPhone.

Technically….yuck! The major averages broke thru my favorite 8EMA, but are still above their 20 day and 50 day moving averages. Looking at the stochastics, I see a snap back up tomorrow (that means hoping).

Aaargh! Total frustration……happy trading to all!

Sex and Trading

Sex and Financial Risk Linked in Brain

When young men were shown erotic pictures, they were more likely to make a larger financial gamble than if they were shown a picture of something scary, such as a snake, or something neutral, such as a stapler, university researchers reported. The arousing pictures lit up the same part of the brain that lights up when financial risks are taken.

It’s like I tell my wife….and the IRS, “I need that subscription to Penthouse. It’s an education expense.” 8)

Up/Down

Looks like we may be going back to that old green-red-green-red type of market. :( Nice trading, but boy does it get tiring.

The markets had a nice rise this morning, but started dwindling down after 11AM. For the last two hours it meandered up and down through break even, eventually resting in the red. The Dow -46 closed at the 8ema, as did the Nasdaq and the Qs. The S&P and Russell 3000 closed a bit below the 8ema.

After a strong day like yesterday, some profit taking is expected. Volume was lower also.

Some individual plays that did good today: DNDN and PEIX

Like We Thought…

After a short-lived up move the reverse kicked in and has been moving down. There’s still another 75 minutes left, and we’ve seen many a big last-hour-reverses, but I don’t think this time. At the best we can hope for is a doji day.

The morning pop did give us an opportunity to get 2 shorts, RZ and STAR, but they will both be closed out by the end of the day.

Hooray for IBM

When IBM pre-announced their earnings early this morning, the futures started jumping and they never looked back. A good day for the bulls, but be careful of bull traps, earnings and news. Don’t forget Fed Beige Book on Wednesday.

Had several winners today: DNDN +7%, CNTF +7%, and DVAX +6%.
