Oil slick

Oil inventories were bullish all around, but the oil market dove down $4+ for no reason at all. Maybe all the traders believe there is a bubble. The indexes loved that move and went up in tandem…but got real tired by the end of the day with gains cut in half by the end of the day. The S&P held above its 8ema, but the Dow couldn’t quite make it. The Nasdaq was trying to move through its 200ma, but it too could not sustain by the end of the day.

Had some winners in (ULBI), (IAR), (CNTF) and (KOSN). But I had some losers: (IDMI) and (BCON).

Tomorrow I’m looking at: (BIOS), (ENT), (FRPT) and (MVIS). Working on several new scans on TCnet, so I’ll see if more pop up. Happy Trading :-)

Great, but…

This morning was great, gangbusters out of the gate. But, at 2:30, a u-turn and down they came. I thought we may even get into the red….real close for the Nasdaq….the Dow and S&P had more of a cushion, but still ending in the lower half of the range. Not bad overall. Better than expected CPI numbers were the big push, but I’m not sure why the late day sell off. And did you see the VIX get under 17?

Had some good plays (DNDN) (DGLY) (MVIS) and (QTWW), but I was bored after noon. Tomorrow I’m watching (BIOS), (VNDA), (GFG) and (MNKD). Happy Trading :!:

Another one

A good day. Yeah, I know the DOW was down, but the S&P 500 closed right about even and the Nasdaq and the Russell were up. Even the volume picked up a bit. Sure would like to see some follow through. Anyone notice how low the VIX is getting?

Overall it was a great day of trading? Some nice movers (MVIS), (DNDN), (QTWW) and (SSBX). And even more nice chart setups (ANPI), (SPSN), (MNKD). Need to find more….

Wasn’t that somethin’…

Dow Industrials May 12Nothing can get this market down…not an earthquake, not an ugly loss by (S) or even a warning by (FDX). The only thing keeping this market lackluster is the volume…there isn’t any!

All the major indexes closed above the 8ema, which for me gives them a positive direction. And I had some decent winners: (MVIS), (DVAX), (SUPG) and (CNTF). I held them over so we’ll see how they do tomorrow. We have morningstar candles on the (QQQQ) and Nasdaq, while the Dow and S&P500 are close to bullish engulfing patterns. Plus I’m also going to watch these: (HYTM), (BCON), (DXCM) and (OWW). It’s good to be a trader right now :)

I tried to make some trades in the CNBC Millionaires Challenge, but I guess they had troubles with the website. I was finally able to get in near the end of the day and place some trades, but only completed 3 of the 5 daily trivia bonus questions….at least I got them right  See ya’ in the market tomorrow.

Waiting

That’s about all to do, except for watching the grass grow or the paint to dry. We are teetering, swinging gentley and slowly, side to side, waiting for 2:15PM EDST Wednesday when the Fed tells us they are cutting another quarter point before they stop …or maybe they will take the high road and say they are done. We can wait another day and a half, but we do have a whole bunch of earnings reports tomorrow that has just got to put some waves into the market. Doji’s all around for the markets today on very low volume…and I expect the same for Tuesday.

Some indiviudal winners: (NURO) (SYNM) (MVIS) (XRM) and losers: (SIGA) (STEM).

Anybody signing up for CNBC’s Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge?

Yeah Baby!

Nice….and profitable! Almost back to the April Fool’s close. Thank you Coke, JPMorgan, Intel and the consumer price index. We needed that. And all on higher volume. Yeah, baby :!:

We should see follow thru on Thursday because IBM and Ebay came thru big time afterhours.

My winners today: VNDA MVIS CNTF and even better…no losers :)

Going to spend the evening going thru charts and line up tomorrow’s buys. Don’t want to waste any time tomorrow. Happy Trading.

2 for 1

We went up today as much as we went down yesterday. If you look at a 2-day chart, what do we have?…….Yes! Another doji….bouncing off the 8 ema. Tomorrow is Friday and we’ll have to see what traders decide to do for the weekend. Let me guess…..a doji day? And I’ll hope for an upward bias :)

Most of the news this morning was bad, but the markets headed up and were up big. In the final hour though, there was a pretty sharp sell-off with a recovery in the closing minutes. Today’s winning volume was bigger than yesterday’s losing volume.

My good trades: SIGA HYTM. My big loser today was yesterday’s winner…MVIS. Oh well.

Slithering down

The Nasdaq and the Qs took it on the chin today, down over 1%…while the S&P was down 0.8% and the Dow was the least stinky at 0.39% We found support just shy of the halfway point of last Tuesday’s big candles.

Is was a losing day trading for me with CROX AVR VNDA. My only winner continues to be MVIS. I saw some rumors that AAPL may like the MVIS products for the iPhone.

Technically….yuck! The major averages broke thru my favorite 8EMA, but are still above their 20 day and 50 day moving averages. Looking at the stochastics, I see a snap back up tomorrow (that means hoping).

Aaargh! Total frustration……happy trading to all!

And yet another doji day…

Looked like a strong day for a while there, but it dwindled in the afternoon, ending in yet another doji day….well at least for the Dow and the S&P. The Nasdaq had an ominous bearish engulfing pattern, along with the QQQQ.

AA and AMD did not have good news afterhours, and am wondering if that will bring in a bad mood to the market tomorrow. Futures are down a little this eveing as well as the Asia markets.

MVIS was my winner today, a bigger winner than my loser, IDMI. Oh well, just keep plugging away :)

Shoot ‘em Up

Another crazy day in the market. The markets reached their peaks an hour and a half into the day and then went down from there. A short-covering rally in the last 15 minutes brought the market back…. because nobody can predict what will happen between close and open. The selling volumes were bigger then the buying volumes and overall volume was below average.

In my stock plays today, NYNY continued its upward trend. AVII, CNTF and MVIS were green for me, but PEIX was red all day. The best was SWHC, up 23% today…better than a $2 pistol :D

Remember, China markets open tonight after being closed for the New Year holiday. It will have a lot of adjusting to do after 5 days. Japan opened in the green this evening and US market futures are a bit red, but we still have another 12 hours before the U.S. opens.

Slow Bleed…

..all day…and for now, we are wallowing in the red. But I found these 2 stocks for the long side: MVIS MNTA ….and they’re both doing well, so far. Oops, better tend to my screens…getting redder

A Fun Trading Day…

Haven’t had one of these for a while. A big up day (that’s a personal up day, not an index up day) can sure make up for the bad days…as long as you honor those stops….which I don’t always do. ;)

Soon I’ll try to explain why I got into these stocks. And when I get into a groove, I’ll try to tell you before I get into them.
